Celebrate Children’s Book Week with Reading-Related Fun from CHPL

Children’s Book Week is a nationwide celebration of books and reading for young people. Across the country, events are held to spark a joy of reading in young people. During the first week in May, your family can participate in a variety of entertaining superhero-themed events at CHPL.  

I look forward to Children’s Book Week every year because it is a great way to celebrate reading and help kids see that it can be fun. I hope kids and parents realize that it doesn’t matter what you read: print novels, graphic novels, audiobooks, picture books, etc. All that matters is that you find something you like and read it. 

Superhero Storytimes 

Bring your toddlers and preschoolers to superhero-themed storytimes at our branch libraries during Children's Book Week. Our Greenhills Branch also is offering two outdoor Superheroes Unite storytimes on Saturday, May 8. Registration is required. Participants ages 3-6 receive their own superhero capes ahead of time to decorate at home. Then they can wear their completed capes at the program! Knuffle Bunny Show & Tell 

Parents and preschoolers can sign up for our virtual Knuffle Bunny Show & Tell programs Wednesday, May 5, and Friday, May 7. When you sign up online, you’ll request a Knuffle Bunny painting kit be sent to the branch of your choice. Or, stop by any branch and pick up a printout to color or paint. Or, download the printout now.

Save Circulation City

Kids ages 6 and up can stop by any branch to pick up a bio sheet or download one here , opens a new windowand then work together to save Circulation City during our interactive Zoom programs Monday and Tuesday, May 3-4, and Thursday, May 6.  

Learn to Draw Videogame Characters

Young artists in grades 3-6 learn to draw their favorite videogame characters with artist Steve Harpster. Registration is required and the Zoom link is sent the day of the event.
