This Veterans Day as we honor those who have served our country, visit select library locations, including the Walnut Hills and Greenhills Branches, for special events honoring veterans or recognize Veterans Day wherever you are with new oral history videos of veterans working at CHPL as well as the over 700 interviews of veterans through our Veterans History Project.
Honoring Veterans at the Walnut Hills Branch
Enjoy patriotic military music and pay tribute to veterans on November 1 from noon-2 p.m. at the Walnut Hills Branch Library at an event presented in partnership with the Veterans Administration. John Graham, local librarian and author of the book "The Gold Star Mother Pilgrimages of the 1930s," will present the history of pilgrimages of grieving relatives to the graves of their fallen soldiers in Europe.
Veterans Day Open House
We welcome all service members to visit the Library on Veterans Day. Stop by the Greenhills Branch Library on November 11 from 10 a.m. - noon for a community craft for all ages to create a "Thank You" banner. Light refreshments will be available while supplies last.
Honoring Library Staff Veterans
CHPL is proud of our staff veterans! In addition to events happening in person across CHPL, the Library's Genealogy and Local History Department is unveiling a new oral history video featuring five veteran staff members. These interviewees shared their experiences of joining the military, their duties while enlisted, and how the military has shaped their lives and Library careers.
These oral history videos can be viewed on the Library's YouTube and our Digital Library, and a montage of these videos will be shown at the Veterans Day event on Saturday, November 11 at the Walnut Hills Branch Library.
