Summer Reading, CHPL’s fun-filled summer program for kids and teens, is back with more ways to read, create, explore, and discover! Join us on the fourth Thursday of the month at noon for a new Lunch & Learn video. This month, Keith Armour, the Library's Adult Learning and Literacies Manager, share the new challenges for kids and teens, awesome activities for all ages, and fun family-friendly events happening all summer long as part of Summer Reading.
How to Join Summer Reading
From June 1 to July 31, kids and teens can visit any library location to sign up for Summer Reading for free. Find all the details about this year's program, including events, prizes, resources, and more on our Summer Reading webpage., opens a new window
To kick off the Summer Reading fun, kids and teens receive these free items when they join:
- Summer Reading challenge sheet
- Book to keep
This year, kids and teens have brand new challenges to complete over the summer:
Kid Challenge (Ages 12 and under)
Read, Create, Explore, and Discover! Track your reading and other activities for 25 days this summer. Place a sticker from your Challenge Sticker Sheet each time you complete an activity. Once your Challenge Board is full, bring it to any library location and select a prize! Limit one Challenge Board per participant.
Bonus Challenge! For those looking for a jam-packed summer of discovery, return the 25-day Challenge Board by July 16 to receive a bonus 15-day Challenge Board. Return the bonus Challenge Board by July 31 to select a bonus prize. Limit one bonus Challenge Board per participant.
Teen Challenge (Ages 13-18)
Choose your own adventure! Read and explore Library resources to complete a Bingo Challenge. Return your completed challenge sheet by July 31 for a special prize! Limit one Bingo Challenge per participant.
Bonus Challenge! Summer Reading speedrunners who return the Bingo Challenge by July 16 can receive a bonus Bingo Challenge. Return the bonus Bingo Challenge by July 31 to select a bonus prize. Limit one bonus Bingo Challenge per participant.
Earn Funtastic Prizes
Every kid or teen who signs up for Summer Reading will receive a free book! Books in Spanish for young kids will be available by request.
Kids and teens can earn completion prizes for reading throughout the summer! Participants can select one prize after completing their Challenge Board or Bingo Challenge. Anyone who completes their bonus Challenge Board or Bingo Challenge can choose a second prize!
