Happy 30th Anniversary, Green Township!

“The Library makes it so easy to do Book Club!” read one pink paper heart, written on in red ink. “The Library opens the world to us,” said another. “Love my Library! My home away from home!”

These paper hearts, filled out by customers last February to help decorate the entryway windows of the Green Township Library, perfectly encapsulates what makes this Branch Library so special to its customers.

The Green Township Branch Library , opens a new windowhas been a Westside mainstay since 1990. After a groundbreaking ceremony held on May 11, 1988, the Library experienced a few delays before the official dedication ceremony took place on January 7, 1990.

The Green Township Branch Library was the first regional Library constructed, sitting on a five-acre site and providing the surrounding communities with 15,000 square feet of space designed by architect Frank W. Enneking.

Over the past several years, the Branch Library has welcomed new additions to its modern space. A “zen” reading area found a home in the adult fiction section, the children’s area got an Early Literacy Discover Center, and quiet study rooms were added to the TeenSpace.

“I’ve been coming here since 1995,” said Library regular Hugo P. “Everyone I’ve ever dealt with at this location has always been friendly and professional.”

“Six years ago, I moved from Green Township to Ross,” said another customer. “I love the staff at the Green Township Branch Library [so much] that I continue to travel there to participate in [the] many activities offered.”

In celebration of its 30th anniversary, the Green Township Branch Library is gearing up for an Open House party to celebrate three decades of bringing access to information and knowledge to the community. Join us this Saturday, January 11 from 12-2 p.m. for a presentation about the history of Green Township (12:30 p.m.), a lively piano performance by Louise Haas of the Western Hills Music Club, cake, trivia, a scavenger hunt, and more! You can even enter to win a commemorative drinking glass.
