Are you seeking a neurodivergent community? We're excited to announce two new programs to foster community, understanding, and connection for autistic, ADHD, and other neurodivergent adults!
Late-Identified Neurodivergent Book Club
In a neurotypical world, neurodivergent folks can struggle to find their place. The Late-Identified Neurodivergent Book Club, opens a new window offers a welcoming space for neurodivergent (and questioning) adults and those who love them. From memoirs to fiction to non-fiction to graphic novels, the book selections are chosen to prompt discussion about our own experiences and to celebrate neurodiversity!
Please join us for the Late-Identified Neurodivergent Book Club’s first meeting on Saturday, Aug. 24 at 4 p.m. at the newly renovated Downtown Main Library. We will discuss All Systems Red by Martha Wells, the first book in Wells’ acclaimed Murderbot Diaries series, which offers a unique perspective on identity and autonomy.
We'll meet monthly on the fourth Saturday at 4 p.m. in Meeting Room 3SE at the Downtown Main Library, and we welcome newcomers of all neurotypes!
Coworking Club
In addition to the book club, we’re launching a Coworking Club. Especially helpful for adults with ADHD and AuDHD, coworking (or body doubling, as it’s sometimes called) helps overcome distractions by working on tasks in the presence of others. It’s a good strategy to help with focus and accountability, making it easier to tackle tasks such as bills, paperwork, job applications, emails, or even reading a book! To help you check off your to-dos, the Library offers free WiFi, $5 worth of free printing, laptops to check out for in-building use, scanning, and faxing. Our goal here is to help you stay on top of tasks, and you may just make some meaningful social connections along the way!
The Coworking Club launches on Saturday, Sep. 21, and meets monthly on the third Saturday at 4 p.m. in Meeting Room 3SE at the Downtown Main Library.
The Late-Identified Neurodivergent Book Club and the Coworking Club are part of CHPL’s ongoing effort to provide supportive and inclusive spaces for neurodivergent folks. Whether you're seeking connection, understanding, or simply a welcoming community to share your love of books or to stay focused on tasks, CHPL’s new programs are open to all!
