Eager to find a furry friend this winter? The annual My Furry Valentine, opens a new window pet adoption event is moving online.
My Furry Valentine works alongside rescue, shelter, and other animal welfare counterparts who are implementing spay and neuter, foster care, trap-neuter-return, foster networks, pet retention, and other comprehensive adoption programs, all with the goal of one day becoming a “no-kill” nation. With every event My Furry Valentine hosts and every animal adopted, our community is one step closer to that goal.
Since its start in 2012, My Furry Valentine has grown in size and popularity and has become one of the largest animal adoption events in the country. The hundreds of adoptions that take place during the event give animals without homes the chance they deserve at joining a loving family. As a matter of fact, over more than 6,000 adoptions have taken place since 2012 – how awesome is that?
Adoption During a Pandemic
This year, gathering thousands of people together for one weekend of fun, love, and fur just isn’t possible.
Enter the first My Furry Valentine Virtual Mega Adoption Event —because the need for animal adoptions doesn’t come to a halt just because large gatherings do. In fact, one could argue the need to connect pets with adopters is even more important. Donations to animal rescues and shelters have slowed down within the past year due to the economic downturn. Also, with social distancing and limited face-to-face activities taking place, people are looking for new ways to form connections and furry friends are a great source of companionship. Lastly, COVID-19 (as well as other 2020 world events) has put a lot of stress on our communities and pets lift spirits, so tapping into this source of joy during such a taxing time really benefits a lot of people.

My Furry Valentine takes place February 6-14 and uses an online platform that allows you to virtually view all adoptable animals, schedule a meet-and-greet, complete adoption applications and contracts, process payments, and schedule a pickup for your newly adopted fur baby.
To help promote adoptions during the event, all dog adoption fees are $25 off, and cat adoption fees are as low as $10. Starting Saturday, Feb. 6, potential adopters (and potential pet foster families) can view adoptable animals by visiting this site.
You also can join Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library children’s librarians for special pet-adoption themed virtual storytimes recorded just for the occasion on our YouTube channel.
Each year, nearly 1 million dogs and cats entering shelters nationwide don’t make it out alive, simply because they don’t have a place to call home. If more families would choose to adopt a pet instead of buying one from a pet store, breeder, or online, we could end shelter euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals.
When you welcome an adoptable animal into your life, that pet enriches it with love, companionship, and great joy. You’re also doing more than saving one life – you’re helping us rewrite the script for all homeless animals.
