Learn How to Prevent Cyberattacks at Upcoming Library Classes and Webinars

Written by Keith Armour, Adult Program Supervisor, Downtown Main Library

The average cyberattack costs businesses a staggering $4.88 million, according to IBM, opens a new window. Small businesses and non-profits are often targeted, opens a new window, damaging finances, reputations, and opening potential legal issues.

To connect the community to useful resources, the Library will hold free cybersecurity classes this spring for Ohio small businesses and non-profit organizations with 500 or fewer employees. Attendees will learn to safeguard against attacks using incident response planning and cybersecurity risk assessments.

"If a small business or nonprofit would seek out this type of cybersecurity training elsewhere, it would cost well over $2,500," said Keith Armour, Adult Program Supervisor at the Downtown Main Library.

The sessions will be led by Dr. Olivia K. Hernandez, Ohio small business owner and Lead Engineer in Industrial Cybersecurity at The Ohio State University Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence. Dr. Hernandez will also share the following information during the sessions:

  • Practical Skills in Cyberattack Prevention, Response, and Recovery
  • Customized Training on Cybersecurity Best Practices
  • Improved Ability to Safeguard Sensitive Data and Systems
