By Liz Foreman, Marketing Manager, Downtown Main Library
CHPL partners with 48 public libraries and 117 university libraries throughout Ohio so you can borrow books, movies, and music across the state using your CHPL library card. Not only are the services free for CHPL cardholders, but the books and materials can be delivered directly to your nearest library branch!
Service Pausing for Improvements
To make these two services, SearchOhio and OhioLINK, even better, both will pause this summer to upgrade to a new catalog search tool. Here's the timeline:
- Friday, May 23, 5 p.m. – OhioLINK will pause requesting and renewing
- Friday, August 1, 5 p.m. – SearchOhio will pause requesting and renewing
- Monday, October 27, 8 a.m. – Both services are scheduled to be back up and running by this time
CHPL staff will continue accepting your SearchOhio and OhioLINK returns throughout the requesting and renewing pause.
Borrowing Across the State is Cool!
Although the statewide borrowing services are popular with researchers and academics, they're great for entertainment and pleasure reading, too.
Ohioans, through responsible use of tax dollars and shared resources, can pretty much borrow anything a public or academic library is willing to circulate, which includes movies, music, audiobooks, and more. Learn more on CHPL's SearchOhio/OhioLink page.
SearchOhio currently offers more than 16 million items while OhioLINK offers more than 38 million items. These materials are on top of the 4,960,910 physical items in CHPL's collection! In 2024, CHPL cardholders borrowed 45,292 books, CDs, audiobooks, and other items from SearchOhio & OhioLINK.
Because the Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library has the second largest holdings of any public library in the country, CHPL is a strong partner to our fellow Ohio libraries! In 2024, CHPL lent 70,452 items to cardholders at other Ohio libraries through the services.
