Temporary Delays for New Print Books Due to Vendor Shutdown

Written by Liz Foreman, Brand Coordinator, Downtown Main Library

The nation’s largest vendor of books and services to libraries, Baker & Taylor (B&T), is shutting downAs a result, CHPL and more than 4,000 libraries nationwide are experiencing temporary delays on the deliveries of new releases and requested items in the following formats: print books, large print books, books on CD, DVDs, and music CDs.

Additionally, the Lucky Day print book program will wind down in future months because the books acquired for this program were specifically tied to B&T. The Lucky Day eBooks are not impacted by this disruption.

While there will be temporary disruptions with physical materials, CHPL’s eBook, music, video, and eAudiobook apps, opens a new window —like Libby and Hoopla—will continue to run as normal with no disruptions. (New to these? Ask a Librarian, opens a new window for free, friendly help or, attend a tech help session, opens a new window at a branch near you.)

Building Relationships with Other Vendors

The shutdown came as a surprise, but the vendor had been struggling with recent challenges, including a failed acquisition. Fortunately, the Library has consistently grown and maintained strong relationships with a diverse range of vendors, positioning CHPL for greater success during this transition.

Thanks for Your Flexibility

The Library appreciates your flexibility during this temporary disruption! We will keep you informed with updates as they happen. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to Ask a Librarian.
