Books become art in dual exhibits at the Main Library

Who: The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County and the Cincinnati Book Arts Society

What: Bookworks and the Keith Kuhn Memorial Exhibit

Where: Main Library, 800 Vine St., Downtown Cincinnati

When: June 14 – Sept. 4, 2016

Why: Every year the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County reminds readers how books themselves can be transformed into art, with two exhibits: Bookworks XVII and the Keith Kuhn Memorial Exhibit.

Bookworks XVII is a Cincinnati Book Arts Society exhibit of one-of-a-kind, handmade books. Get up-close and personal with the exhibit during two artist walk-throughs at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 19, and Sunday, Aug. 21. There also is a hands-on bookmaking demonstration at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 17, at the Main Library.

The Keith Kuhn Memorial Exhibit is on display in conjunction with Bookworks XVII in cases near the Main Library’s South Building elevators and in the Popular Library. The exhibit showcases artists’ reimagined books from the Library’s collection. The show is organized annually in the memory of former Library Services Director Keith Kuhn, who directed the Library’s expansion of the collection.

The exhibits are open during Main Library hours: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Wednesday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday through Saturday; and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday. The Main Library is located at 800 Vine St.
