Library to host health fair, discussions during 30th Anniversary of World AIDS Day

According to statistics from UNAIDS, an organization leading the global effort to end AIDS, 36.9 million people around the world are living with HIV. Some 940,000 people died from AIDS-related illnesses in 2017. The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County hopes to help spread awareness and information during an education event and health resource fair Saturday, Dec. 1, 2–5 p.m. coinciding with the 30th Anniversary of World AIDS day.

Join us in the Huenefeld Tower Room of the Main Library, 800 Vine St. in downtown Cincinnati. The Library is partnering with Caracole, Hamilton County Public Health, Women Helping Women, Planned Parenthood, the Central Community Health Board, and University of Cincinnati’s Early Intervention Program for this event. A panel discussion is planned at 3 p.m., during which local experts and community members will discuss the recent rise of HIV and AIDS in our community, as well as the experience of living with these diseases.

On Sunday, Dec. 2, the Library will hold a community conversation at 2 p.m. to commemorate World AIDS Day.  People who are affected personally or have experienced the disease through others are encouraged to share what the 30th Anniversary means to them. Every voice matters in this safe and respectful environment.

Both events are free and open to the public. For more information about World AIDS Day events at the Main Library, visit CincinnatiLibrary.org  or call 513-369-6900.
