Library to unveil new children’s area at Madeira Branch during donor event

The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County is unveiling a newly remodeled children’s area at the Madeira Branch during the Library Foundation’s annual donor event at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at 7200 Miami Ave., in Madeira. Media are welcome at the event.

A generous donation from Shan Bhati and her brother, Dr. Amar Bhati, in memory of their mother, Shammi, enabled the Madeira Branch Library to make improvements to its children’s area. The renovations will include the filling of the kiva to bring the area to one level, the installation of new carpet, the addition of fresh paint, and the purchase of new educational toys.

“Our mother had a lifelong love of reading and she worked hard to instill the same in us at a very young age,” said Shan Bhati. “We are hopeful that the expansion of the children’s reading area will allow larger reading programs to be held, more comfortable accommodations for the children and hopefully more children start to think of the Library and reading as fun!”

The Library Foundation will also honor Tom Jones during the donor event. Jones is a member of the planned giving Torch Society. In addition, the Library Foundation is announcing the new Writer-in-Residence for 2016-2017. This year’s finalists are Thomas Atkinson, Kurt Dinan, Judith Turner-Yamamoto, and Rick Pender.

The Library Foundation is dedicated to ensuring a great Library system by raising, managing, and allocating funds to expand and enhance the programs and services of the Library in the areas of children’s literacy, family outreach, senior services, and collection enrichment.
