**UPDATED**

Statement regarding the arrest of a customer at Main Library

The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County is deeply concerned by the events that took place Friday afternoon, Sept. 22, 2017, involving Charles Campbell. We would like to offer Mr. Campbell a sincere apology.

We believe in the importance of the First Amendment; it is not the intention of the Library to suppress anyone’s freedom of speech or bar them from visiting one of our locations.

The security officer involved was suspended pending an investigation. We have requested to have the charges dropped against Mr. Campbell, and his library suspension has been rescinded. We are also taking extra steps to ensure that our security staff is properly educated on our policies and procedures and when to involve the Cincinnati Police Department.
