Retired Judge Nadine Allen appointed to Public Library Board

The Hamilton County Board of Commissioners appointed retired Hamilton County Common Pleas Court Judge Nadine Allen to the Board of Trustees of the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County. Allen is serving a full seven-year term until Sept. 30, 2025. She replaces Barbara Trauth, whose seven-year term expired on Sept. 30.

Allen received a bachelor’s degree from the Ohio State University and a law degree from J.D. Capital University Law School. She served as a Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas Judge from 2009–2016 and as a Hamilton County Municipal Court Judge from 1987–2009. Before that, she worked as a trial counsel for the Hamilton County Public Defender’s Office and the Legal Aid Society of Cincinnati.

She formerly sat on the board of the Cincinnati Bar Association. Judge Allen is currently the vice president of the Cincinnati Drifters Club. She also is an Ohio Supreme Court Judicial Instructor on Fairness and Access to Courts and a Mentor Judge. Her awards and recognition includes the National Presidential Outstanding Volunteer Service Award, YWCA Women of Achievement, NAACP Lifetime Service Award, and Outstanding Woman of the Year from the Cincinnati Women’s Political Caucus. She is a resident of Evendale.

“I have always loved libraries,” said Allen. “From the age of  9 years old,  my family and I walked more  than a mile in gleeful anticipation of getting books to read! I am very enthused about joining the Board of the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, and supporting the great services it provides to the public.”

Allen is being sworn in at the next board meeting, scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at the Harrison Branch Library, located at 10398 New Haven Road.
