Vietnam Cobra pilot, Desert Storm flight instructor to speak Nov. 11 at Downtown Main Library

Vietnam veteran and Operation Desert Storm volunteer Bob Hamilton is the keynote speaker for the 65th Veterans Day Commemoration Monday, Nov. 11, at 10:45 a.m. in the atrium at the Downtown Main Library. Hamilton’s talk is part of an annual celebration dedicated to the men and women who serve our country.

Hamilton was sent to Vietnam in August of 1970 where he served as a Marine and an AH-1G Cobra pilot with the Army. He was shot down once, and was awarded two Distinguished Flying Crosses, 50 Air Medals and the Navy Achievement Medal with Combat V. He now lives in Cincinnati and is a retired surgeon and flight instructor who volunteered during Operation Desert Storm.

The event also features musicians from the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra performing the armed service songs from each military branch: the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard, and participation from local veterans groups. Veterans receive a commemorative keepsake, while supplies last, and light refreshments will be served.

Visit the Veterans History Project at cinlib.org/vets. It houses a database of locally recorded interviews, documentary materials, and video streamed versions of selected interviews. The original documentary materials for the Library’s Veterans Archives are at the Downtown Main Library, which was dedicated as a Memorial Library when it opened in 1955.
