Construction is complete for the new home of the Madisonville Branch Library, located in the Facility Master Plan South East Planning Zone.

The branch is located inside a new building down the street from the previous location, at the corner of Madison Road and Whetsel Avenue. The new library's interior space is double the space of the old location!

The new space, leased inside Phase 3 of the Madison and Whetsel development, opens a new window, will welcome, support, and inspire the community through digital inclusivity. With a focus on emerging technology, the branch provides hands-on learning opportunities that inspire creativity and collaboration. The space is a place where minds of all kinds connect, create, and collaborate.

The new space includes:

8,904 estimated square feet, all on one floor
Four study pods
Two meeting rooms, which can combine into a large community meeting space
Fully accessible, including restrooms
MakerSpace equipment
1,270 feet of shelving for collection display
Additional desktop and laptop computers
8 designated parking spots
New furniture and computers

The Library does not have plans to sell the previous branch library building.

Week of December 12, 2022: Construction is almost complete on the buildout of the leased space with the exception of the electric panel. The ongoing supply chain issues have delayed the delivery for several months. We expect to take possession of the space in mid-January 2023 with an opening in early 2023.

Week of December 5, 2022: Wood timber frames have been installed in MakerSpace area. All furniture, displays, and casework have been assembled.

October 2022

Week of October 17, 2022: The carpet is in and the walls are painted. Soft seating and bookshelves are expected to be delivered next week. Study pods, manufactured by Framery, are in the space and in the process of assembly.

Many of the branch's gaming and technology items are being configured, like iPads, VR headsets, and Nintendo Switches! The branch's new items for their MakerSpace are also in the process of assembly.

Week of March 7, 2022: A community information session was held to share the timeline and final design of the new Madisonville Branch Library with the community. A VR walkthrough, opens a new window of the design concept is now available online.

Drywall installation on the ceiling has been completed. Windows have been installed and masonry work continues on the exterior of the building.

Week of March 14, 2022: Plumbing work is ongoing with exterior window and masonry work continuing.

Week of March 28, 2022: Work continues on internal plumbing as well as external masonry.

A Madisonville Community Feedback session was held virtually on May 18. Community members met with representatives from CHPL and GBBN Architects for an update and overview of the project so far, and also gathered customer feedback in advance of design work beginning.

Another session was held virtually on May 25 with local small business owners for an informal conversation to explore how the new branch could best support small businesses. The event was co-hosted by the Madisonville Business Chamber. Dot surveys are also being used to learn about community members’ needs.
