About the
Pleasant Ridge Branch
In 1879, a local literary society formed the Pleasant Ridge Library Association. Members purchased shares, while non-members paid a small annual fee to borrow books. In 1891 Pleasant Ridge became a village. At that time, Library service relocated to a room in their new Town Hall and dues were no longer needed to borrow materials. In 1900, they joined the Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library system and in 1912 Pleasant Ridge was incorporated as part of the city of Cincinnati. By 1929, Pleasant Ridge opened at their current location, 6233 Montgomery Road. In 2012, a new addition and entrance were added to make the facility ADA-accessible and more convenient for customers. Local donors made these improvements possible. By 2023, this beloved historic institution was in need of interior and external maintenance work. After a temporary closure, the Pleasant Ridge Branch Library reopened its doors to refreshed spaces and a welcoming community.
