The bipartisan Board of Trustees of the Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library (CHPL) unanimously voted to place a levy on the November 2023 ballot in Hamilton County. The levy is 10-year renewal of an existing 1 mill levy with a 0.5 mill increase.

Voters last approved the 10-year levy with 80% support in 2013, ensuring that all 41 branch library locations continue to be valuable community resources that provide all residents with one of the largest collections of books in the country, job search and resume support, free Wi-Fi and computer access, and more.

About the Levy

For the November 7 ballot, the CHPL levy is a renewal of an existing 10-year, 1 mill levy that has long supported the public library, along with a proposed increase of 0.5-mill. This proposed 1.5 mill levy would amount to a total for this levy of $3.58 per month (or $43 per year) per $100,000 of property value. The levy will appear as Issue 20 on the November 7, 2023 ballot in Hamilton County.

The levy will allow the library to continue to provide a high-quality experience to all Hamilton County residents. Having operated for 170 years, CHPL is committed to ensuring excellent services and spaces for current and future generations.

"The Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library has proven to be an excellent steward of taxpayer funds, receiving multiple statewide recognitions over the past years. With this track record of fiscal transparency and accountability, CHPL is committed to maintaining the high-quality experience our customers expect," said Ret. Judge Nadine Allen, President of the Library Board of Trustees.

"We're grateful for the support from Hamilton County residents in their libraries. Local funding is key to continue providing excellent library services and resources to all ages, including popular services such as digital materials and online learning services," Allen added.
