Don’t Fall for a Boring Autumn and Explore November Events at CHPL!

While the year is winding down, the Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library is gearing up for a month full of opportunities for you to explore, connect, and grow. This November customers of all ages, from the autumn newborns to the veteran fall fanatics, can enjoy events in-person and virtually.

Thanks to Hamilton County Public Health, visitors to some CHPL libraries have access to free COVID-19 vaccinations, opens a new window making it easy to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and stay safe.

Autumn Adventures!

Days are getting shorter but there’s plenty of time to have fun. Discover regional plants and animals alongside other explorers with a free hiking kit. Set the scene for celebrations with new arts and crafts activities. Discover the secrets of why leaves change their colors in a class for young scientists. With events for all ages available at CHPL, a fun-filled fall awaits!

Nov. 2, Explore 101: Gardening in the Fall

Plan your garden or pots for fall with the Adult Learning Center! This class will discuss plants you can plan for your garden that will either be ready for the cold weather season or those plants that can be harvested before the first frost. Registration required, opens a new window.

Nov. 6, Hiking 101 for Teens – Burnet Woods

Newbie hikers and seasoned pros can join us and Cincinnati Parks to learn about how to identify different regional plants, some tips on how to prepare for a hike, and to just enjoy our local parks! All registrants will receive a (free!) hiking kit. Registration recommended, opens a new window.

Nov. 16, Preschool Discovery Lab - Fantastic Fall – Green Township Branch

Nov. 23, Craft: Turkey Pinata – Hyde Park Branch

Make New Fall Friends

November brings its chilly breezes and early nights, but there’s still reason to journey beyond a warm bonfire. Gaze into the stars with fellow budding astronomers. Take your imagination to the stage with a new kind of “book club” through a play reading discussion group. Connect with your community and its past through insightful discussion. The CHPL is bringing engaging events across Hamilton County sure to keep you warm with excitement with the help of community partners:

Nov. 2, Cincy Stargazers – Bond Hill Branch

Meet other amateur astronomers as we discover the night sky together. Bring your own telescope or just come to view. All ages and experience levels welcome! Registration recommended, opens a new window.

Nov. 9, Falcon Theatre Takes Flight @ CHPL Drama Club – West End Branch

Falcon Theatre is partnering with CHPL to offer a play reading discussion group, similar to a book reading group. This event, facilitated by Clint Ibele, will discuss Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, a play by Todd Kreidler. Copies of the play will be made available through CHPL for advance reading. The meeting will be a combination of discussing the play, the playwright, themes, the characters, the history of the play, as well as reading selected scenes. Nov. 10, Virtual Black Maternity Matters – Online Event

CHPL is partnering with Cradle Cincinnati Connections on the series, Black Maternity Matters. Each month we will explore topics including breastfeeding, safe sleep, and pregnancy health and wellness. Registration required, opens a new window.

Nov. 13, Avondale History Lecture Series – Avondale Branch

In partnership with the University of Cincinnati, the Avondale History Lecture Series provides a historical overview of the Avondale neighborhood from the beginning to its current form. Join us as professor Anne Steinert explores current research and analyses of early Avondale. Registration required, opens a new window.

Nov. 16, Cincinnati Museum Center Presents: Science of Crime – Price Hill Branch

Join us as the Cincinnati Museum Center brings their Programs-on-Wheels, presenting Forensics: The Science of Crime. Analyze human skull replicas to determine the gender and ethnicity of a fictional victim. Combine clues from the skull with crime scene evidence to determine the identity of a missing person and speculate as to the cause of death. For ages 10-18. New Creations for a New Season

Get your imagination going with creative activities for all ages at CHPL. Give your friends and family a handmade gift in one of our crafting groups. Draw a hero saving the day or diabolic villain ready to cause mayhem with a guided drawing class. Get up and dance during an afternoon of fun for our youngest movers and shakers.

Nov. 11, NaNoWriMo Writer’s Workshop – Monford Heights Branch

Nov. 17, Craft: Glowing Snowman Ornaments - Green Township Branch

Nov. 20, Paint & Take: Miniatures - Loveland Branch

Come pick out a mini, sit down, and start painting! Participants will choose a pre-printed fantasy game miniature to paint and take. For adults ages 18 and older. Registration required, opens a new window.

Nov. 29, Movers and Shakers – Mt. Healthy Branch

You and your child will shake it together! Sing, dance and enjoy music, movement and fun. You may bring your own shaker, but we will provide shakers for use. For ages 1-5. No registration required, opens a new window.
