Did you know elephants can recognize themselves in a mirror, remember friends they've met years before, and communicate using low-frequency rumbles that can travel for miles? Young explorers can discover the amazing world of elephants alongside Elmo, Abby, and their friends in NATURE Sesame Street and the Great Elephant Adventure, a new PBS Kids special that takes the beloved Sesame Street crew on their first-ever African safari.
CHPL and CET are partnering to give families an early look at this heartwarming adventure before it premieres nationally.
Be among the first to join Elmo, Abby, and their friends as they journey to Kenya to meet a baby elephant they adopted from The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. CHPL customers will have three chances to catch a screening of excerpts. Stay for family-friendly activities and giveaways, while supplies last.

"Together, we’re committed to providing free educational resources and early literacy supports that help children explore new ideas and build new skills."
NATURE Sesame Street and the Great Elephant Adventure
NATURE partnered with Sesame Workshop, Jane Goodall Institute, BBC, and David Attenborough for a new season of natural history specials, including Sesame Street and the Great Elephant Adventure.
Follow Elmo and the Sesame Street gang as they embark on their first-ever African safari adventure. After adopting an orphaned elephant online, Elmo, Abby, and Nina travel to the The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Kenya to meet the elephant and her keepers. The trip takes the crew from the elephant sanctuary to the unpredictable African bush, where they come face-to-face with some of nature's most iconic wildlife, including lions, zebras, giraffes, and hippos.
The special episode will premiere on PBS, PBS Kids, PBS.org, YouTube, and the PBS app on Oct. 14 at 8/p.m., but CHPL customers can watch excerpts of the film beforehand at three Library locations. Each event starts at 10:30 a.m.

- Monday, Oct. 5 at the Forest Park Branch Library
- Saturday, Oct. 10 at the Groesbeck Branch Library
"These screening events not only provide an opportunity for family engagement, but remind the community that PBS remains a free, high quality, and trusted resource for children and adults on and off screen," said Lisa Sensale Yazdian, Ph.D., manager of education and engagement. "Children need healthy relationships to thrive, and when safe spaces like libraries design hands-on learning activities in conjunction with educational media, participants learn to navigate relationships as they learn new content and skills."
