Everyone has a library story: a moment, a memory, or a feeling that comes rushing back the second you think of walking through your library’s doors. Maybe it’s the thrill of finding a new favorite book, the friendly librarian who always remembers your name, or a storytime that has become a beloved ritual with your children or grandchildren.
For some, these moments begin with a spark of curiosity and a peak at the stars. A staff member at our Groesbeck branch recently shared this story about the Cincinnati and Hamilton County Public Library's telescope lending program:
“We had a homeschool mom who was very excited to get the notification that it was her turn for the telescope because her kids were studying space. They checked out a ton of space books and were super pumped to be able to have the telescope for some hands-on learning for their lessons!”
Stories like this remind us that the Library is more than a building. It is a place where learning, connection, and creativity happen every day at our 41 locations. Children discover new worlds in books. Teens find a safe place to be themselves. Adults explore new skills. Seniors stay engaged and connected.
The Library Foundation helps make these moments possible by funding expanded Library programs, enhanced engagement services, and special resources (including telescopes!) that ignite imaginations and enrich lives throughout our community. Additionally, The Library Foundation is taking part in the 2025 Cincinnati Gives Challenge, a friendly fundraising competition among local nonprofits. The challenge begins on Monday, Dec. 1 at 5 p.m. and ends on Thursday, Dec. 11 at 5 p.m. Gifts made to The Library Foundation during this time not only support Library programs but also help the Foundation compete for additional prize funds.
