Exemplify “Love, Power, Justice” on Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Written by Joe Armstrong, Content Specialist, Downtown Main Library

The Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library is participating in the MLK Coalition's annual event honoring and recognizing the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

The theme for MLK Day 2023 is "Love, Power, Justice." Inspired by the words of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in his last book, "Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community?," he wrote: "Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice."

Turn Words Into Action

Join the Library as we participate in the coalition’s 49th annual MLK Day March and Program. Starting at 10:30 a.m. with a walk from the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center to Washington Park, the Library will have a table at Music Hall featuring books, resources, and library cards. For more information about the entire event, visit the MLK Coalition website.

Each year the MLK Coalition generously donates part of the funds raised during the event for purchasing books about King and the civil rights movement. They also include an annual list of resources for all ages

Resource lists from past years are available at MLKCoalition.org.

The Library also has curated book lists available for customers of all ages to reflect on and learn about Martin Luther King Jr. and the civil rights movement. Explore these lists for kids and adults:
