Taste All Cincinnati Has to Offer, in CHPL Style

Written by Joe Armstrong, Content Specialist, Marketing, Downtown Main Library

For Cincinnati foodies, this weekend is as good as it gets. Taste of Cincinnati rallies the area’s food-makers and food-lovers alike to celebrate one of the city’s quintessential qualities: good eats. As we prepare our stomachs to devour everything from barbeque and burgers to goetta and gyoza, CHPL can join you in providing a feast for all senses!

Classic Cuisine from Cincinnati

This weekend will feature the area’s best and newest restaurants, but this city’s no stranger to making good food. Our Digital Library's “Cincinnati Menus” collection features more than 180 local restaurant menus from the 1930s to the present. Take it from us, many of the menus would be popular hits today, but there might be some courses better suited for the more adventurous pallet (brains and eggs, anyone?). While we can’t enjoy some of these favorites anymore, they’re certainly worth a trip down memory lane.

Become Cincinnati’s Next Best Chef

The Library is where young (and young at heart) cooks can hone their culinary skills. After gaining inspiration from the weekend’s buffet of food trucks, music, and more, attend one of the Library’s cooking events. Kids can learn how to make simple and delicious meals at the Avondale Branch Library’s Kid’s Chef event, teens can create tasty treats at the Madisonville Branch Library’s monthly Teen Chef events, and adults can learn the basics of vegetable gardening lead by special guest Peter Huttinger from Turner Farm Community Garden, at the Price Hill Branch Library.

Interested in consuming rather than cooking? Bring the family to kick off Discover Summer with ice cream sundaes, opens a new window at the Covedale Branch Library.

Feast for the Eyes and Ears

Come Tuesday, after a weekend full of feasting, your stomach may be full but your appetite for cooking content may not be satisfied. Enjoy cooking-themed movies, tv-shows, opens a new window, and magazines free with your library card. By the time you’ve watched all the seasons of America’s Test Kitchen, you’ll be ready to make fresh pasta in no time!
