Avondale, Price Hill, Walnut Hills branches increase hours to meet needs of customers

In response to changing customer needs, the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County increased the hours of operation at three Library locations. Beginning this week, the Avondale and Walnut Hills branch libraries will be open an additional four hours a week. The Price Hill Branch Library also recently increased its hours of operation by four hours a week.

The Avondale and Walnut Hills branch libraries now are open two additional hours per day Wednesdays and Thursdays. The new hours for both branches are noon to 8 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday; and 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Avondale and Walnut Hills remain closed Sundays. The new hours went into effect Monday, Oct. 8.

The Price Hill Branch Library hours increased when the branch temporarily relocated to the Price Hill Recreation Center. The original building, located on Warsaw Avenue, closed July 3 due to significant ceiling damage. Branch operations are housed in the Price Hill Recreation Center until work on the branch can be completed. The branch’s new hours are now the same as the hours for the Avondale and Walnut Hills branch libraries, listed above.

The Library added hours at these three branch libraries after studying customer use. These three branches in particular have a demonstrated need for more youth services—particularly in the busy afterschool hours. The change was also made because these branches have the capacity to support additional staff. In addition, in an effort to be consistent throughout the Library system, the new hours for these three branch libraries match those at a number of other Library locations.

“We are shifting staffing resources around to support these changes without an impact to our budget,” said Paula Brehm-Heeger, the interim Eva Jane Romaine Coombe Director of the Library. “We do hope to gradually expand this effort to the other branches with a facility size that can accommodate additional staffing as needed, possibly later in 2018 or in 2019.”
