Book Clubs now can reserve multiple copies of titles with new library card

If your book club enjoys reading the latest bestseller or newest hot author, then you’ll enjoy the new card created by the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County. This card offers special privileges for the many active book clubs in the community.

The book club card allows book club organizers to place multiple holds on the same title (up to three titles), offers automatic renewals and no late fees! Books can be picked up as a group or individually at the requested pick-up location. Then, they can be returned individually at any of the Library's 41 locations.

“The Library is introducing this new book club card to offer our support for book club members in using the Library to easily find and reserve the books they are reading at each meeting while making it simple to plan ahead for future meetings, too,” said Paula Brehm-Heeger, Library’s Service Operations Manager. “Supporting reading and fostering interaction and dialogue among community members around the books they really want to read are great roles for the Library. We are excited about the opportunities the introduction of this new card offers in these areas.  It is a convenient way to gather books for group reading that can then be returned by individual book club members at any Library location.”

Book club leaders can apply for the card in person at any library branch. Applications also can be downloaded from CincinnatiLibrary.org and brought to any Library branch to complete the process. Book club leaders with disabilities who are unable to visit the Library may apply by mail. The book club cards expire Aug. 1 each year but can be renewed. The book club card cannot be used to check out items other than the book club items.

Once books are picked up, the loan period is 21 days. Items will be automatically renewed up to eight times, as long as there are no other holds. Materials will not accumulate fines but will become overdue after the final renewal date. All formats may be requested, but large-print books, books on CD, and Playaways are only available in limited quantities.

“Make sure your book club is always prepared with the awesome book club card," said radio personality Janeen Coyle, who hosts the WGRR Kroger Book Club. "I love that we can reserve enough for everyone to be ‘on the same page.’ ”
