The Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library has officially reopened the Cheviot Branch Library after an 8-month renovation.
More than 500 community members turned out on Saturday, May 10, to celebrate the grand reopening with live jazz near the fireplace in the new adult reading area, family-friendly activities, and a special visit from the Cheviot Fire Department fire truck. The event marked a new chapter for the branch as a vibrant hub of learning, connection, and opportunity on Cincinnati’s west side.
The day began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring remarks from the Library’s Eva Jane Romaine Coombe Director Paula Brehm-Heeger, Library Board of Trustees President Christopher Harding, and Cheviot Branch Manager Taylor Souders.
“We are thrilled to reopen the Cheviot Branch and can’t wait for you to explore all it has to offer. Thank you to the Cheviot community. Your feedback, ideas, and enthusiasm were essential to shaping this space. Your input ensured this branch reflects the values, needs, and dreams of the people it serves,” said Eva Jane Romaine Coombe Director Paula Brehm-Heeger. “This space is welcoming, flexible, and built to serve the community for generations to come. I picture a grandparent helping a child choose their first library book, a small business owner attending a workshop, or many a newspaper being read by the new fireplace each morning. This is what this space is truly for.”
Renovations include a fully accessible entrance from the parking lot, a new elevator connecting all levels, expanded children’s and teen areas, upgraded meeting spaces, modern shelving and furniture, and a cozy adult reading area with a fireplace. A new mural and the return of the iconic “Cheviot Sheep” statue reflect the neighborhood’s personality and pride.
The project is part of the Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library’s Facility Master Plan, opens a new window, a decade-long initiative to upgrade its facilities to serve not just today’s generation but also generations to come.
