CINCINNATI — Hundreds of attendees began celebrating Black History Month hearing from four Black authors at this year’s African American Read-In.
On Saturday, February 1, the Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library hosted its sixth annual event at the Downtown Main Library.
This event coincided with the national African American Read-In and encourages residents of Cincinnati and Hamilton County to read together, centering on African American authors and books.
This year’s event featured:
- Taylor Darks, author of Be, Black Girl, Be — leading a family storytime followed by a Q&A
- Shawn Pryor, author of Planet Takeover — discussing graphic novels and character development
- Taylor Bridgeforth, author of Better Luck Next Time — presenting her debut novel
- Jeremy Clark, author of Sleepless In Cincinnati — speaking on writing science fiction
All four authors shared their stories and experiences in storytelling. Attendees had the opportunity to meet and greet the authors, buy books, enjoy crafts and hands-on activities, and check out resources from local literary organizations including Imagination Library and Junior Authors.
“We were thrilled to bring our sixth annual African American Read-In to the Downtown Main Branch Library,” said Eva Jane Romaine Coombe Director Paula Brehm-Heeger. “This event is a vibrant celebration of Black creativity and storytelling, offering our community a unique chance to engage with four talented authors.”
