The Library Foundation of Cincinnati and Hamilton County recently welcomed four new members to its board of directors: Chrissey Barrett Haslam, Deborah A. Heater, JD, Kara Sanders, and Matthew Selker. These Library Foundation directors are a dedicated group of volunteers who share a love for the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County and those it serves.
“Our newest directors bring with them a wide breadth of experiences and skills that will benefit the Foundation and our work as we strive to help fulfill the needs and vision of our Library,” said Staci Dennison, the Thomas W. Jones Executive Director of The Library Foundation.
Chrissey Barrett Haslam has dedicated her career and volunteerism to making the community a better place. Currently a community relations consultant with the Children’s Home, she has experience in the public health, business, finance, marketing and nonprofit sectors. She has served in leadership roles in state government and on transformational project teams at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and The Children’s Home of Cincinnati. Barrett Haslam serves as a trustee with the Center for Addiction Treatment and Families Forward. She also serves as a member of the Steering Committee for the Hamilton County Children’s Services Levy and on the program committee for Boys Hope Girls Hope.
Deborah Heater is an attorney, consultant and human resources professional. The regional director for the Ohio Civil Rights Commission, Heater oversees regional enforcement prohibiting discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodation, credit and lending, and disability accommodation in higher education. Heater has served in leadership roles at University of Cincinnati, Blue Ash, and at Cincinnati Public Schools. She was vice president of human resources at Columbus State Community College. She is an advisory board member of the Executive Leadership and Organizational Change program at NKU’s College of Business, executive leadership alumna of WE Lead, and a board member of the Homeownership Center of Greater Cincinnati.
Kara Sanders has focused her career and volunteerism on ensuring that others have the resources available to them so that they can excel at their jobs and provide rewarding lives for themselves and their families. As the Craftforce Development Executive at Messer Construction Co., she oversees the learning and development of more than 600 craft workers and promotes workforce development and inclusion in the construction trades. Sanders was one of the founding members of Rosie’s Girls in Cincinnati, serves as a member of the Pride Steering Committee for ArtsWave, and was named as one of Cincinnati Business Courier’s 40 Under 40 in 2018.
Matthew Selker has focused his work on creating relationships and building trust on sound financial advice and stewardship. A financial advisor at Morgan Stanley, Selker’s services incorporate the creation of tailored wealth management plans, analysis and construction of portfolios, management of risk, access to lending services, guidance about philanthropic giving, and legacy planning and services for business owners. Selker is an active volunteer for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, co-founded the Cincinnati Ballet’s Attitude YP Board, and was named a Great Leader Under 40, Class of 2015 in Venue Magazine.
