Free meal distribution at branches continues over holiday break with some alterations

The holidays are stressful during the best of times, but the stresses of the pandemic make this season particularly difficult for many people. Food insecurity has risen to unprecedented levels and is more prevalent when school is out of session. To help support our communities during winter break, the Library is partnering with La Soupe Community Kitchen to distribute additional free meals in several communities.

Through this initiative, frozen meals for all ages are available for pickup at the following locations:

Tuesday, Dec. 22

  • 1-3 p.m. Reading
  • 3-5 p.m. Avondale
  • 3-5 p.m. Price Hill Rec Center (959 Hawthorne Ave.)

There is a limit of one meal per person, while supplies last. All ages are eligible, and youth may receive family meals without being present. Free books and Take & Make kits for youth also are available at these events.

The Library also continues its weekly meal distribution Monday, Dec. 21. However, there is no UMC Meal Box distribution Monday, Dec. 28. Participants are receiving extra meals and snacks Dec. 21 for the following week.

The distribution of La Soupe meals is taking place as planned Dec. 28. Plus, the partnership between the Cincinnati Library and La Soupe Community Kitchen continues through January 2021. This program was originally funded through the end of December, but funds are available to continue into 2021, with hopes to extend to April if more funding comes through.

So far this year, the Library has given out a little over 200,000 meals and snacks. For updated information, go to CincinnatiLibrary.org/Meals.
