CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library (CHPL) is thrilled to announce the return of its much-anticipated Winter Checkout Challenge, a delightful six-week event running from January 16 to February 28, 2026. To keep Library-lovers cozy and engaged during the colder months, the challenge encourages adults aged 18 and over to explore, connect, and discover through a series of themed activities.
Challenge Highlights:
Participants can join by visiting any of CHPL’s 41 branch locations to sign up and receive an exclusive tote bag. Upon registration, each participant receives a themed bookmark featuring five activities. Completing four activities on a bookmark earns an entry into the raffle for a luxurious blanket, with the opportunity to pick up additional bookmarks for more entries.
Participants who return their completed bookmarks on or after January 30 will receive a collectible Winter Checkout Challenge mug. For those who prefer digital engagement, progress can be tracked online via Beanstack, allowing participation from the comfort of home.
The Themed Activities Include:
- Explore: Dive into translated fiction, explore a new genre, or discover a library branch you haven't visited before. Enjoy a cinematic experience with Kanopy.
- Cozy Up: Embrace the warmth by checking out books or movies, trying a new recipe from our cookbooks, or enjoying an audiobook under a cozy blanket.
- Relate: Build connections by chatting with library staff for recommendations, bringing a friend to a branch, or engaging with the Library on social media.
- New Discoveries: Venture outdoors with a Discovery Pass or find a new eBook or eAudiobook via Libby. Explore new arrivals or use Book Hookup for tailored suggestions.
- Personal Pursuits: Kickstart your 2026 goals by learning a new hobby, solving honor puzzles, or taking courses on LinkedIn Learning. Create at the MakerSpace or learn a new language with Transparent Language.
- Reflect: Begin the new year by setting reading goals and reflecting on past favorites.
CHPL invites everyone to mark their calendars for related events throughout the challenge period. These events are crafted to enrich the experience and provide further opportunities for community engagement and personal growth.
“The Winter Checkout Challenge is an exciting way to cozy up, explore, and reflect during the winter season,” said Eva Jane Romaine Coombe Director Paula Brehm-Heeger. “CHPL encourages lifelong learning for all. It’s a great place for adults to experience the fun and wonder of discovering the Library.”
