The Avondale Branch of the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County will hold a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of a construction project that will improve access to the Avondale Branch for customers with disabilities. The ceremony will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 10:30 a.m. at the branch, located at 3566 Reading Road, Cincinnati, OH 45229.
The $1.2 million renovations of the 100-year-old Avondale Branch Library will make this Carnegie Branch accessible to everyone by adding an alternative entrance, elevator, and two new restrooms that will remove physical barriers to library service. Additional enhancements will include new carpeting and lighting, upgraded heating, air condition, and ventilation system, improved Internet connectivity, reconfigured service desk, and self-check stations.
K-4 Architects designed the ADA improvements. Project construction is to begin in earnest at the end of October with a target completion date of April 2014.
The ceremony on Oct. 8 will include remarks from Board of Trustees President William J. Moran and Eva Jane Romaine Coombe Director Kimber Fender. The third and fourth-grade class from Zion Temple Christian Academy will recite poetry to honor the occasion.
