Library Lovers Celebrate Valentine’s Day with Ribbon-Cutting at Newly Renovated Mt. Washington Branch

CINCINNATI — After eight months of renovations, the Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library proudly unveiled the new Mt. Washington Branch. The grand reopening celebration took place on Valentine’s Day, February 14, and offered guests a variety of activities to celebrate the $2.5 million building as part of the Library’s Facility Master Plan. 

Saturday began with an opening ceremony and ribbon-cutting, where Eva Jane Romaine Coombe Director Paula Brehm-Heeger, Vice President of the Library’s Board of Trustees Colleen M. Reynolds, U.S. Representative Greg Landsman, State Representative Ashley Bryant Bailey, State Senator Catherine Ingram, and Mt. Washington Branch Manager Paul Burch gave remarks about the Mt. Washington Branch’s reopening.  

“Thank you as well to the Mt. Washington community for your ongoing partnership and commitment to public library service in this community,” said Eva Jane Romaine Coombe Director Paula Brehm-Heeger. “This project is part of our long-term Facility Master Plan to keep all 41 library locations welcoming, accessible, and future-ready.” 

Saturday’s festivities welcomed over 950 guests to explore the library branch. This celebration allowed the Mt. Washington and Hamilton County community to come together and enjoy the newly renovated space and it's exceptional features, including a new MakerSpace, quiet reading area with fireplace, vibrant kids' and teens' areas, new paint and flooring, new furniture and shelving, modernized mechanical and electrical systems that were 50+ years old, and a refreshed staff space. The reopening celebration ultimately became a heartfelt tribute to the community and all the efforts dedicated to creating a welcoming environment for everyone. “This beautiful, newly renovated Library is our way of saying that we see you, we value you, and we want to give you the wonderful library that Mt. Washington richly deserves,” said Mt. Washington Branch Manager Paul Burch. “I am excited, not just for the structural beauty, but for the new features this Library will offer.”
