The Walnut Hills Branch, located at 2533 Kemper Lane, is temporarily closed due to the discovery of mold in the basement. The first floor of the branch —where all but the meeting room and restrooms are located — tested within the normal range. However, out of an abundance of caution, administrators with the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County made the difficult decision to close the branch until the issue is remediated.
“In July, the Price Hill Branch Library was relocated to the Price Hill Recreation Center due to significant damage to the ceiling,” said Paula Brehm-Heeger, the interim Eva Jane Romaine Coombe Director of the Library. “Because of this we wanted to proactively test other locations similar in age to Price Hill to ensure there were no other unforeseen issues. Unfortunately mold was discovered in the Walnut Hills basement, and we feel closing the location until it is remediated is the best course of action.”
The Library remains committed to serving the Walnut Hills community during the temporary closure. The book drop at the branch remains open. Customer holds are available for pickup at the Avondale Branch Library, located at 3566 Reading Road. Updates on repairs will be posted to CincinnatiLibrary.org as soon as information is available. Customers can also call the Virtual Information Center at 513-369-6900 for updates.
The Walnut Hills Branch was one of the branches in line for extensive renovations, including adding accessibility for people with disabilities, using funds from a 1-mill levy approved by Hamilton County voters this May.
