2026 Free Tax Help - Thank You!
For the sixth consecutive year, the Library partnered with the United Way of Greater Cincinnati to provide free tax preparation services to individuals and families in need. Services were offered at eight locations: the Downtown Main Library and the Groesbeck, Harrison, Madisonville, North Central, Price Hill, Reading, and Walnut Hills branch libraries. United Way staffed six locations, while AARP provided services at two additional locations and coordinated appointment scheduling and data services across all sites.
More than 500 volunteers from AARP, AmeriCorps NCC, Ernst and Young, GE Aviation and Kroger supported this effort, with Library staff assisting by greeting customers and completing intake so tax preparers could focus on returns.
This collaborative tax preparation served 1,888 individuals and families, saving $519,200 in filing fees, (a 50% increase over the previous year), and securing more than $2,082,182 in refunds, (an 81% increase over the previous year), representing a 50% increase in taxpayers served compared to the previous year. Overall, 2026 reflects a substantial expansion in reach, impact, and financial benefit to the community by building on an already successful 2025 program.
