The Avondale Branch of the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County will hold a grand opening ceremony to mark the completion of a construction project that improves access for customers with disabilities. The ceremony will take place Tuesday, May 20, at 11 a.m., at the branch, located at 3566 Reading Road, Cincinnati, OH 45229.
The $1.2-million renovation of the 100-year-old Avondale Branch Library began in October 2013. The design changes make this Carnegie Branch accessible to everyone by adding an alternative entrance, elevator, and two new restrooms, which remove physical barriers to library service. Additional enhancements include new carpeting and lighting, an upgraded heating, air condition, and ventilation system, new furniture, additional computers, an expansion of the service desk, and self-checkout stations. The new entrance is enhanced by a beautiful, custom-designed Rookwood tile honoring the Avondale Branch Library’s 100 years of service to the community. K-4 Architects designed the ADA improvements.
The ceremony will include remarks from Board of Trustees President Ross Wright, the Eva Jane Romaine Coombe Director Kimber L. Fender, an Avondale Branch customer, and elected officials. The children’s choir from South Avondale Elementary School will perform a musical selection to honor the occasion.
