Ideal for personal embroidery projects, CHPL's embroidery machines can stitch on a variety of items including clothing, bags, towels, and other personal items.

With the MakerSpace’s ten needle embroidery machine, customers can easily convert images from the web or even hand-drawn pictures into bold and colorful embroidered designs.
MakerSpace offers a variety of thread colors and hoop sizes to help bring your project to life. Stabilizer is provided to protect the integrity ofyour fabric.

Visit the Downtown Main Library to use the Brother PR1060W 10 Needle Embroidery Machine.

Setup and stitching can take a while! Customers may use the embroidery machine for up to four hours. This allows for file setup, material and stabilizer prep, stitching, and troubleshooting.

What You'll Need

  • Embroidery files must be in .PES format. Our Embroidery Studio software can convert regular images like .PNGs and .JPGs into stitch-ready files that allow users to manipulate thread colors, which parts of the image stitch first, and more.
  • No outside thread or hoops are permitted. The MakerSpace has many colors available that staff can switch out.
  • Metallic thread is NOT offered.
  • While we have tear-away and cut-away fabric stabilizers available for customer use, prior research is encouraged. If your material requires a different kind of stabilizer, you are welcome to bring it in.

Types of Fabric & Their Stabilizers

  • Knits: Stretchy fabrics like t-shirts, hoodies, yoga pants, activewear, and even jeans with lycra. When embroidering on these fabrics, a cut-away stabilizer is typically needed. You will need enough to apply a minimum of two layers.
  • Wovens: Fabrics that do not stretch at all. When embroidering on these fabrics, you typically will need a tear-away stabilizer.
  • Textured and Fluffy: These materials require a special water-soluble stabilizer that helps prevent the stitching from disappearing down into the fabric. The Library does NOT carry this in the MakerSpace. Due to the newness of the embroidery process to staff, we are not currently working with such fabrics on this machine.

A limited supply of cut-away and tear-away stabilizer is on hand in the MakerSpace if you forget to bring some, but there are many varieties and weights of the former. For the best possible final product, staff highly encourages customers to research their project and bring what best fits their needs.
