Now Open! Visit the Renovated Hyde Park Branch Library

After receiving its first significant update in over 50 years, the renovated Hyde Park Branch Library is now open!

Visit the newly reopened branch Monday-Tuesday from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. and Wednesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

The branch library, located in the heart of Hyde Park, closed in 2022 to undergo a floor-to-ceiling renovation, which includes extensive interior upgrades and expanded meeting space while prioritizing accessibility improvements to the entrances, parking, restrooms, and throughout the building.

A Grand Celebration for a Grand Reopening

The Grand Reopening Celebration on Saturday, April 13 kicked off with a packed ribbon-cutting in front of the building’s brand-new, accessible front entrance. 

Hundreds of kids, adults, and families then explored the modernized branch, which added new technology and equipment, improved the building’s accessibility, and improved the reservable meeting room. Preserving the building’s beloved historic charm was a priority for the project, making sure the popular mural by Michael Scott in the kids' area of the branch remained intact for future generations of young learners (and grownups!) to enjoy.

New Events and Activities at the Hyde Park Branch

Dozens of events for all ages are already scheduled at the Hyde Park Branch – including these four customer-favorite recurring events. Attend one – or all – of these fun-filled events and explore all that your library has to offer.

Movers and Shakers 

The updated kids’ area will be bursting with energy every other Tuesday from 4-4:30 p.m. Bring your whole family – all ages are welcome – to this popular event full of singing, dancing, music, movement and tons of fun!

Family Storytime 

Bring the entire family to enjoy books, songs, and activities, while building literacy skills at the branch’s weekly storytime. With a brand-new puppet theater created just for the kids’ area, who knows what fun-filled stories are going to be told!

Adult Board Game Club

Come on over into the improved meeting space at the branch to meet new peeps and play that board game you've been interested in. No registration required – just bring yourself every third Monday from 7-10 p.m.

One of the Library’s most popular book clubs is returning to Erie Ave. at the newly reopened Hyde Park Branch Library! Come on over and discuss the book of the month with friends both old and new. April's selection is White Noise by Don DeLillo. No registration required.
